Guineas

Today we got our guineas in the mail. They are African white guineas.

Here's how they were packed in the box.

This is their setup with the heat lamp and their food and water. One of them drowned in the water bowl within hours, so now we're down to 15 guineas. It looked like he/she fell asleep in the water and drowned.

  1. These are so cute! I want to come see them.
Why did you get African white guineas? I thought you liked those other hens that are friendly and good layers.

  2. These are not for laying. They are for guarding the house and for food.

  3. Ohh. Are the guineas like those raptor chickens you had before? I thought they did not play well with the others. What are they guarding the house from? That mysterious invader that eats the chicken food?

  4. Yes. These are exactly the "ugly raptor chickens" we had before except a different color. That's why I say they might be for food -- in case they don't play well with the chickens. They screech at anything that comes into the yard -- animals or people, day or night.
